The Automation of Single Drop Micro Extraction

During a recent MultiPurpose Sampler workshop, a customer asked if they could use the GERSTEL MPS to automate Single Drop Micro Extraction*.

After some head scratching, we came to the conclusion that the Maestro control software would need some modifications and so asked our friends in the software group at GERSTEL if they could help.

Efficient and obliging as ever, they have now provided us with the software change that we asked for and we are ready to try it out and see how it works.

If this is something that interests you, and you would like to try it out, please let us know. We will shortly be setting up an instrument to perform Single Drop Micro Extraction and it would be easy for us to do some work on your behalf.

*Single Drop Micro Extraction or SDME uses an ordinary microlitre syringe to suspend a single droplet of solvent, either in the headspace above a sample, or within a liquid phase itself, enabling analytes to be extracted and leaving much of the matrix behind. By its very nature, it is easy to alter the selectivity of the extraction by using different solvents or by modifying the sample matrix.
